Peter,

Think of it as an Ohm's Law problem, with parallel resistors. If you have one 
resistor and a certain requirement for current flow through it at a specified 
voltage, when you add a second parallel resistor the total current required 
from the power supply is doubled. CFM is the amperage, back pressure is the 
voltage. You need twice the CFM at the same back pressure.
