Gary,

The tube was built to run zero bias at about 2500V, you'll see about 170 ma
at that amount.  If you crank up the plate voltage to 3000 without adding
5-8.5V of cathode bias you will see 250ma of plate current.  250 mils will
turn the plates mighty orange really fast.
