The pressure change wouldn't do anything significant, but 
keeping the seals of a glass tube moisture free would 
certainly help a lot. Large glass tubes can have shorter 
life when they are stored in a moist environment. Perhaps a 
good solution would be to put them in a refrigerator next to 
the welding rods.
