The AL-84 was entry level at a time sweep tubes were cheap, import TX tubes
werent available yet and domestice were expensive. They were made to compete
with almost identical amps from Dentron and Amp Supply

There were only a very small # of the AL-80 released before the problems
were found and solved. The AL-80A was the result and had absolutely nothing
to do with MFJ.

However junk like the AL-811 and 811H are all on MFJ's watch.

Acceptable to you maybe.

Rather than bash the company,

That thing has had so many revisions and fixes it should have been scrapped
early on.

And anybody can make a profit in the poorest state in the country when they
use college kids and poor locals part time, pay them slave wages and zero
benefits.

The end result is no competition from any other part of the country that has
a well educated and trained base of engineers and techs.

However, I do agree that there are

Yugo comes to mind.
