What sort of adhesive is used to make the sheet section into a suitable
cylinder or cone?

This material is excellent, and Alpha fabricated chimneys
with similar stuff in several models.

The best adhesive is GE High Temperature Silicone RTV,
red in color, and appearing in a 5-ounce tube with gold
metallic color.

Make sure to clean the rubber surfaces well with a
solvent before gluing, and use popsicle sticks or
equivalent to clamp the glued surface with some
spring clamps and don't touch it for a week!
