I have an AL-82 and it is a tough amplifier. The main amp is the same in the
1200 and the 1500 except different tubes. I chose the 82 because the cost of
the tubes are reasonable. It has not disappointed me in contesting...and DXing
(CW and SSB). It gives full power and maintains that power through a contest.
I do not have the QSK option because I do not use QSK...although I do have the
PIN diode switching kit which I have not put in the amp.
I am satisfied with my AL82.

In our day and age it seems that Common Sense is in short supply. If you don't
have any Common Sense - get some Common Sense and use it. If you can't find
any Common Sense, ask for help from somebody who has some Common Sense. Is
Common Sense divine?

Hi all...I'm looking at getting an amp to add to the toys in the shack.
I've narrowed down my search to the Ameritron AL-82 and I had some questions
for those of you that have experience with them.
1-How does this amp hold up to contesting, specifically CW and RTTY?
2-Are there any common problems with these amps that I should be aware of?
3-How does the QSK option work?
If anyone knows of one on the used market, please feel free to let me know off
the group.
Thanks,
Dave
