Hi Everyone,

I just picked up a faulty 2100z for a 100 Euros. I thaught that I might
be able to repair it and now I'm looking for some advice.

The previos owner said it went dead with a bang a couple of years ago.
And indeed, one of the tubes is broken for sure. Something is really
lose in it... The previous owner exchanged the tubes (Taylor) but the
amp still didn't work. After hearing strange noise from inside the amp
he turned it off and never tried it again since....

This is what I have done so far:

- I opend the cabinet and vacumed inside. There were enough dust to fill
a cushion!
- I examined all the high voltage capacitors for mechanical defects and
they look fine. I have not tested them though...
- I also checked all power resistors, but they seem to look fine too.

After this examination I hooked it up and tried to drive it with low
power (5-30 watts)

 - With no drive the Ip reads about 120 mA.
- With about 30 watts of drive the Ip reads about 180 mA.
- No power output
- The input SWR is indefinite
- The relays are clicking...
- One of the tubes i glowing red hot! I mean really RED HOT!

I appreciate any advice I can get.

Thanks

Ulf /SM0NOR
