  Regarding 8877 tube life, I can tell you that in my working
  days we ran an 8877 amp at 250 watts output 24/7 for 15
  years, without ever changing the tube. The amp was
  transmitting IRIG-B time code on VHF for synchronization of
  all instrumentation on a test range.

  We finally switched to a solid state amp.  The old amp is
  now owned by a ham in Colorado, on moonbounce, using the
  same tube.
