A friend of mine is running an Alpha 87A with an Omni VI Plus. He is trying to
use them with QSK and is having a problem. He is using the W6RU wiring scheme
between the Omni and the 87A.

According to the Alpha website, W6RU said to use a Y connector and do the
following. Cable one leg of the Y connector to the Omni TX Out jack and the
other leg of the Y connector to the Omni Tx en jack. The third leg of the Y
connector has a diode between it and the relay jack on the Alpha 87A. He wired
it per the instructions. The QSK appears to work fine except he is seeing a
spike in SWR on the Omni meter. He said the diode polarity is correct.

It appears there is a timing problem between the Omni and the Alpha. The Omni
begins sending before the Alpha is ready and that is causing the spike in the
Omni's SWR.

Has anyone used the W6RU wiring scheme and eliminated this spike in the Omni's
SWR?
