I run 3-500zg orange for years with no trouble--you just have to blast
the air over them; only RF PA tube I know of that isn't supposed to
show color is the 813 and if you look at the plate thickness you will
see why. There are probably others not meant to show color, but I
don't know which ones. I do know the 4x1 isn't one of them. In
fact, the way to shorten the life of a 4x1 is to run it light with a
dark anode if you ask me. Also run about 8 v. filament hi hi.
