American surplus too!
But it's only to be expected, because far fewer sockets have ever been
manufactured compared with the numbers of tubes. A commercial amplifier
may use several replacement tubes during its long lifetime, all in the
same socket.
Amateurs are about the only users who require sockets and tubes in
numbers much closer to 1:1.
