Ive converted several 2500's to 8121's when they were readily available from surplused TV translator service. Took the screen voltage off the HV and used a SS regulator with current and voltage limiting control. The horizontal cooling worked fine with a fiberglass shroud to direct the flow and ran cool at 1000-1200W out.

"I have been running a Dentron MLA 2500, modified this way, for about three years (Not the QSK). with absolutely no problems. My concern with this mod was mounting the tube
horizontally. This has not been an issue, up to this point. Comments?

I have also been using an MLA2500 modified with a horizontally mounted 3CX800A7 for over 10 years. It works fine - and the tube cost me $100 as although it was new it had been dropped and has a dented plate! Don't know about the other types of amplifiers mentioned.
