For a long run down a tower, you need to tape the cable to the tower at about 3
foot intervals to stop things moving. For a crank up, fold over tower, my
recommendation is a 5/16 inch diameter 'messenger rope' with the cables taped
to it every 3 feet or so, with 3 feet of rope and 37 inches of cable. That way,
the rope takes the strain off the cable.

Taping to the tower is a good idea and I do it about every three feet, but it does nothing to prevent vertical migration of the center connector.
