For the same reason I dont need a 600hp car on the local streets.....I cant use that power.

If a 1500-2500W amp cant handle a 400A surge then the fuse better blow before the transformer.

The only place I use the 6A10 are on the Alpha 77SX conversion with the outboard transformer and a LK-800 conversion to 3CPX tubes and a 3200VDC under load transformer.

Why not go all the way and use the 10A10 diodes?

10 Amps at 1kV, in what looks to be the same size as the 6A10.

1N5408 diodes, mounted on perf-board, works fine.

REPLY:

1N5408's are OK, but for essentially the same price 6A10's have a much
higher forward current and surge current rating. I use them for
everything. Be sure you get the 1000 PIV version - they also come in a
100 PIV version. Mouser carries them.
