Now that I've learned enough about propagation to know
that geo-magnetic storms are a significant source of noise on
the HF bands, I find WWV is a bit late in informing us of them.
The October issue of SKY & TELESCOPE (p.85) has an article on
building a magnetometer to detect the phenomea. The circuit is
rather simple, and was designed to provide an Aurora alert. So,
it should be applicable for HF usage (and VHF).
