In theory a contact could be like this:

of course, the point is to prove that both stations heard each other.
Somehow because of the net-people we got it in our heads that a contact
must have a number like "five five," "fifty five" "one, two, three, four,
five,"
"one two three four five."
The Sweeps exchanges even more information than the standart 59.

Hello all, I am planning on being active for the whole test SOAB as
XE1/AA6RX this weekend. To help in maximizing my score I'd love to
get my hands on a list of SR/SS times world wide for the contest weekend.
Does any one have the capability of sending me a list? For the future, is
there some freeware or share ware that does this? The only problem with
this method is that it is a major hassle to get access to a disk drive
in order to up/down load files. I'm pretty much stuck to using a dumb
terminal at the University. But with some effort I could download the
file if it exists and someone can forward it to me.
Appreciate any help and look forward to working you all on multiple bands.

I didn't ask my question accurately (or clearly). Let me try again, with the
help of two kind responders.
The CT manual suggests using two lines from LPT1: to key my transmitter.
These are SLCT (DB25 pin 17) to the base of an NPN resistor through a
1K resistor and STROBE (DB25 pin 1) to the emitter.
Both signals appear to follow CT's keying. Maybe I have a short.
Question 1: Does SLCT key the
transmitter with STROBE remaining low, or does STROBE key the transmitter
with SLCT staying high?
Question 2: How much current can STROBE sink? (20 mAmps?)
Knowing what SLCT and STROBE are supposed to be doing will let me debug
the circuit. I can make it work by grounding the emitter of the transistor.
So, I suspect that SLCT keys the transmitter and STROBE should be going low.

WOW! What a great feeling to finally get my first sweep!
You sure got to call CQ to get them all!
Bagged South Dakota at 11am Sunday and called it quits (besides I
had to pack up for the trip back to Boulder).
Thanks again to you Reflector-ites for some good antenna ideas;
I used only an HF6V for all QSOs and it played much better than
low dipoles... I mounted it so the base was up 8' and had only
14 radials. QRN was a problem on 75 and 40...S9+10...but the
blanker helped. Was worried about not getting Manitoba, but finally
ran across VE4JK who said he had gone to a hockey game Saturday night and
had forgot all about the SS!!
Wyoming was sure NOT rare this year: on my QSO #20, KI3V says he's
already worked a TON of Wyomings... but I did get a couple of QSL requests
from 5BWAS hunters. (If you worked me and need Platte County, WYO (which IS
rare), QSL via 7628 Estate Circle, Longmont, CO 80503).

Not for most. At one time, I think there were some awards that required
a "minimum" signal report (i.e. 22(9) or 33(9)). This is not true of WAS.
There is no requirement that the report be exchanged to make the QSO
"valid".
The signal report you put on the card is the signal report for the QSO,
even though you didn't exchange the report on the air. If you don't
remember how loud (or weak) the station was, do like I do and put down
59 or 599 :-).

Yes, and this has caused me to enrich the US Postal Service a good bit
down through the years. Two-way certified postage for mixed WAS, 40m
WAS, 20m WAS, 10m WAS, etc., etc, etc. ARRL Special Service Clubs (not
any affiliated club, just Special Service Clubs) can now do field
checking for WAS. I'm sure this works great if you have an SSC nearby,
which I don't.

ARRL Sweepstakes logs are supposed to indicate ON/OFF times. I used the
ON/OFF feature in CT (8.19), but I notice that the .ALL and .LOG files do

Hi folks, talking about long calls, as Jim Niger told me,"David, you
need to get a shorter call!" Well, I'm sorry to say that I am stuck with
XE1/AA6RX until further notice. We have to follow the rules here in the
Federal District so I can't get a neat call unless someone lets me use
theirs, which is frowned upon. I am told that until I have immigrant
status in Mexico I will have to sign portable. And for each yearly work
visa I have to renew my operating permission to the tune of $90 and a lengthy
wait..always just before the CQWW!! Oh yes, and I need a letter from a local
ham taking responsibility for my amateur radio actions. The things we do for
love... and I do love the CQWW!!!
I took note the other day that when XE1X and I send our calls simultaneously,
I stll have the last dit of "/" and my call to send when he is finished!!
