Did about 72k in 15 hrs. during the Sept. ARRL VHF Contest (lower 6 bands).
I am NEW to this group, and I would appreciate it if someone could send me
a list of other VHF contesters' rumoured scores from this past weekend.

|3. The exchange was simple. RS(T)/appointment for the 125 stations, and
|RS(T) for everyone else. In fact, the exchange was TOO simple for most
|people, and they added QTH and Name, making it sound more like a "normal"
|QSO. Most of them demanded to know MY name and QTH, so I gave it now and
|then.
For me, knowing the QTH is very helpful. Often I'm not competing,
just looking to fill some gaps. In DX contests, the callsign tells me
what I need to know. Events like QSO parties, SS or 10-meter tests
have a state or section in the exchange so I know what the call
doesn't say. Now that I got Rich's much awaited Nevada card
yesterday, I only have one state to go for WAS; and the /125 station
in Twin Falls, ID, will take care of that.
|Maybe contest sponsors can use some of these basic marketing ideas to
|improve participation. This birthday bash was definitely a smashing success!
I wish they could do something with this flavor annually. It had
several things going for it, as I've said elsewhere (Usenet,
probably): It was relaxed - no competition for scores, just a
certificate; and for those who like evidence of having achieved better
than the minimum, the endorsements for additional 25's are available.
It was on for over a week, so there was no rush to get as much done in
24 or 48 hours as possible (you wouldn't think that from the pileups
though). Novice roundup shares some of these qualities, but its
audience is way too small.

40 meter contesting and interfering with the answer phone is getting old,
both for me and my wife. Its a GE, and I've tried all kinds of filtering.
Anybody got any ideas for rfi proof answer phones? Reply to me, I'll
