Dear friend of contesting,
Have you ever tried (di-di-dah-dah-di-dit) . . . have you ever tried to have
a (di-di-dah-dah-di-dit) . . . have a conversat (di-di-dah-dah-di-dit) . . .
have a conversation and (di-di-dah-dah-di-dit) . . . and powerful multi-multi
(di-di-dah-dah-di-dit) . . . powerful multi-multi stations
(di-di-dah-dah-di-dit) . . . stations keep sending di-di-dah-dah-di-dit?
This happens too often even if I just gave my callsign. Does the station
think that I'm actually going to stop the QSO I'm on just to ID for him?
Typically if the station is loud, I've already worked him anyway. If the
intereferring station with hot pants wants to hear my call, the best thing he
can do is shut-up. Making me ask for an exchange several times only prolongs
the process.
I don't mean to sound overly crabby here. I realise that this is all part of
the fun of contesting . . . you have to work the experts along with the lids.
----------
Speaking of lids, does anybody know who was operating W5OK in the ARRL CW?
----------
I agree with Larry, K3TLX. When I have more than 3 stations calling me, I
don't ID every time. I will go every 2 to 3 depending on the size and
managibility of the pile-up. Even if I go 3 QSOs without ID'ing, that would
only be during a situation where I'm working 3 to 4 a minute anyway therefore
I'm still ID'ing once a minute?
When a pile-up occurs, I want to get everyone in my log as fast as possible.
If I were to ID every time I believe my pile-up would get discouraged and
(God forbid) move on.
Also, I believe my somewhat unique exchange that I've used in this contest
for the past 4 years 5NN NN, helps to identify who I am.
----------
On the subject of 5NN being a worthless signal report. I LOVE the fact that
every contest is a little different. If we had the same rules and exchanges
on every weekend, it would become boring very fast.
If you don't like the exchange of a particular contest, go watch television.
There are some contests I don't like and I simply don't operate in them. I
would not like to see any major rule changes of any of the fine contests we
have available.
----------
AMTOR on 7032 during a CW contest weekend?!?! T'aint fair!
----------
Here on the reflector we have a means of going "beyond picky". I enjoy
reading the comments and think taking a subject to it's most infinite detail
is fun. However, those guys who go hyper over every disagreeing statement
might be good contesters but bad conversationalists. Relax and enjoy the
hobby or you'll die before the rest of us.
