Boy do I hope this low sunspot activity stays here for at least another 3 years!
Why should I be happy as a contester with more spots on our local star ??
Everybody has to deal with low prop on the higher bands, don't they ??
Besides I have only a 40 mtr antenna and want to experiment on that band to
get some experience.
Guys enhance your performance on the lower bands, as this is the location
where receiver quality and antenna-setups count double. After that,
please look for me in the contest!!
I bet there are lots of lowband enthousiasts being very happy with these
years, in fact I would build everything possible with regard to antenna's.
Sorry that I'm living on a 3 store appartment with only one (small) antenna
allowed.

Why cause yourself all that extra fatigue by listening between your
own dots and dashes for 48 hours? I hardly even listen to my own dots
and dashes during a contest, which is why I turn down my sidetone to a
whisper. 99% of my CW is robot-sent, so why should I listen to it? I
preserve those brief transmit times for quiet relaxation and
meditation, unless of course I am busy knocking myself out on the
second radio. :-)

The thing that irritates me the most about my Omni V is the zillion of
birdies. I only participate in contests (there! said it) as a recreation,
and therefore only in S&P. Tuning across one of these birdies is truly
irritating. Not to mention the frustration of having some choice DX right
under one. Having a loud spur in an FSK signal's passband is no fun either.
Compounding the problem is a nearly deaf antenna, so the spur-to-signal
ratio is especially troublesome for me.
Anyway, the birdie problem, alone, has caused me to use an FT-990 as the
primary rig and the Omni V as a standby. People tell me that that aspect
of the Omni did not change between the V and the VI. If they fix the
birdies, I'll be among the first in line to get a VII. Really nice
receiver, otherwise.

I just talked to Ten-Tec and there have not been any changes on the
OMNI-VI lately. The RIT is still the same.
However, some one sent them a FAX about our discussions. Best bet
is call Tom Salvetti next week and bug him. He is on vacation now.

Also deserving to be in the zone 4 box would be K0EJ/4 (I think he was
out of SC and into TN by then) and N6WLX/8 (OH) who were both hiding
in the low power list.
JI2UNR, JH7DNO, and JA7FTR had single band scores big enough to be in the
overall top ten in zone 25.
In spite of these first time gliches, these active zone boxes are a great
idea. Maybe in a few years when the sunspots return and I again take DX
contests seriously I will be able to make it into the active zones
box.

Nope - in fact, I can't stand to operate CW in contests the vast majority
of the time. With QSK, I pick up the guy who starts calling after I
already started my next CQ. THat makes a big difference to me. Don't know
if it helps my score, but it makes me feel better. Using an FT-1000D and
an ARD-230A. Am adding a second radio this week or next, and it will also
be QSK-capable.
