Today I read a message in a BBS telling you can send WAE logs to the
following address: 100712,2226@compuserve.com
But when I tried this I got the messages returned with undelivered
wrong address. I don't know how compuserve works ? Can somebody help
?

Since everyone is busy playing with Windows 95, I decided to install
Windows NT. I'm still not sure why, but...
I can't seem to get CT version 8.42 to run on NT. It loads the COMTSR's,
then hangs. Anyone have any experience with this?

For the CWWW SSB contest this year, several locals from WI will be going
to FP (St. Pierre and Miquelon Is.) Below is a copy of the info I have
forwarded to the major DX bulletins. I'm repeating the information here,
to allow those interested to edit their country files to reflect the use
of the special callsign our group has been issued, TO5M. Note that
current cty files list TO5M as being in FM, Martinique.

FP- St. Pierre and Miquelon Is. K9GS, ND9O, N9AU and W9OP will be
traveling to Miquelon Is. for the CQWW SSB Contest. The operation
will take place from October 25-31. During the contest they will
be using the call TO5M. Outside of the contest they will be
operating FP/ homecall. Before and after the contest they plan
on operating mostly CW with a heavy emphasis on the low-bands.
They will especially be looking for Asia at sunrise/sunset on
160 and 80M. QSL to K9GS for all calls via CBA.

Bill: Had another thought re the high beams. I think the idea
that the high beams may often take second place to lower beams
may come from experiences many of us have had on the lower bands--
especially 80 meters. I used to have a phased vertical array on
80 meters which was a killer for DX, but which was terrible in the
SS! I put up a 40 foot high 80 meter dipole that was 5 or 6
s units stronger to the states than the vertical (states east
of the Miss). I think we have all seen this, and attributed it
to low angle prop, so figger that high beams with low angle
prop may suffer as well. This doesn't seem to be the case on
14 MHz. and higher frequencies. Frank may have some ideas
on this as he can test his high horizontally polarized 80 DX
beams for stateside use. I think it has to do with D layer
absorption on 7MHz and down. The low angles just get smothered
in the D layer on the low bands. This doesn't happen on the
higher frequencies. What do you think? - Rol

Remember the thread about taking a "HIT" a few months ago ? Did YOU
really look at YOUR station and do anything about it ? I read about it,
put it on my project list of "important things I must do ... someday..."
and went on to the next thread ....
It's no secret that "THE CONTEST SEASON" starts shortly and in 60 days, it
will be in full (fool?) bloom ... then again does the 'season' ever end ?
Everyone is lookng at what else can I do to be BIGGER, LOUDER, MEANER, etc
for the season ... so *was* I ... did you catch the WAS ?
After 11 years of "no problem mon" my luck ran out and I took a direct hit
here on the 19th ... If you've never been thru this, you will, and if you
have, you don't want to do it again ...
Over 11 years of "work" GONE in 11 nano-seconds ... plus damage to the other
household also ... Not a pretty picture ... my desk is kinda vacant now ...
DON'T "ASSUME" YOUR STATION WILL NOT GET HIT ...I spent quite abit of $$$
for the rig/amp/ants/etc and had "Do something about better protection
in case of lightening" on my HAM-2-DO list ... I read the Polyphaser book
and thought, yep, need to do something, but that stuff not's cheap, and ...
I had always unplugged the AC lines (110/220) and disconnected the antennas.
This had worked well except for a few minor problems over the years. I had
built up a "auto-switching" network so guest ops could not hit the wrong
antenna with the amp/etc in the last few years ... alas PC/Rig controlled !
My 'mistakes' ? Several ... LOOK AROUND YOUR STATION NOW FOR YOURS ...

1. I had unplugged the AC and Coax, but not the CONTROL LINES (7 sets!)
(3 rotors, 1 stack switch, 2 remote switches, 1 4x array switch ...)
2. I was using a A/B box to switch the HP Printer between the shk PC and my
home office PC ( a very BAD error...) HINT: this made a path to AC/gnd !
3. There was no common bonding between "grounds" or a true 'station ground'
either, the 3 towers have no common ground window as they say.
4. I had too many unfinished 'projects' with 'floating coax lines' laying
around that allowed the damage to be worse than it might have been ???
After looking at burn marks, melted or MISSING copper and such, It seems that
the point of impact was the top of the 80' tower (175' away from house) from
there thru the CONTROL LINES to the PC/rig/interface and then to ground via
the printer cable to the A/B box to the AC ground ... The worst damage seems
to confirm that path ... it also jumped outside the house from a control
line to a UNUSED rcve coax that used to go to a beverage feedpoint (no
ant up), melted that inside, jumped to the outside phone lines that run
parallel to it, blew that service box to pieces (and both lines/jacks/etc),
and then came in thru a twinlead (well it WAS twin lead) to the TV/Stereo/AC
area in the house. The twinlead was NOT connected to an outside antenna as I
had disconnected it a few months ago... You can guess what the PC/rig/etc look
like, as the PRINTER card in the PC had a 0.5" hole blown thru the main
chip on it ... OUCH ! Lots of "missing copper traces" on PC boards/etc ...
I was here working at the office desk when it hit, and you have just the
time to say "O ....", by the time the word "O" is out, it's already over
and saying anything else makes no difference then. Burned air has an
smell you'll not forget soon. I was lucky, as nothing caught fire nor was
anyone hurt.
I have insurance, and have started the claim process. But it will be a LONG
process that will probably cost me the "season" operating and a BUNCH
of time replacing/repairing/re-doing the station ... 11 years worth !
Here's my Question to YOU reading this NOW ............
How MANY of MY mistakes RIGHT NOW exist in YOUR STATION ... ?????
... and WHEN are you going to do something about it ?
... I waited too long ... Will you ?
As Steve KC2X quoted on here from the PolyPhaser folks "You can either
control it or let it (lightening) control you" (paraphrase)
I knew better, chose to do nothing else about it, and IT controlled me !
SRI for the log post but if it makes one person do something to STOP it
from happening to them, Then it's been worth it ...
As CONTESTORS, we tend to push everything to the limits, and play the odds
to the limits also. You ARE going to lose against this lightening if you
keep playing 'dumb' long enough, and what will it cost you in repair/replace
time, $$$ wasted 'cause YOU KNEW better, and the missed contests ?
DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT NOW !
