Additional viewpoint from Henry...
Henry Radio, in their manual for the 3K Ultra, specifically states that a
transceiver autotuner may interact with the input circuitry and cause
problems... Thay recommend bypassing the AT at all times..

Followiing question asked at the behest of W9LT/8, avid contester who
(shock, surprise) is not on Internet, or even packet, yet.

He wants to stack two TH-7s, and believes it would be desirable to use
Hy-gain ferrite-core baluns in order to have a DC short at the feedpoint and
reduce rain static, particularly on the upper antenna. He has two concerns,
however:

Are these baluns reliable at 1.5 KW output under contest conditions?
Are they constructed consistently, such that he can count on proper phasing
if he connects them consistently in mechanical terms?

E-mail replies to me directly, please, and if there is broad interest I can
always summarize for the group.

Thanks!

Sinc eadvancing age has now obliged me to wear glasses while using the
computer, I am having a lot of problems with discomfort from earphones
pressing on the glasses, under long-haul contest use. Has anyone come up
with anything ingenious for dealing with this problem?

The hairpin match on the TH-7 provides the DC short, so I can't see the
value of another DC path through the balun.

Hygain says the BN-25 (?) won't take continuous carrier operation at
1.5 KW, but is OK for SSB and CW duty cycles. I've had on trouble
with mine.

I am absolutely aghast at these postings. The folks at CQ do not grade
their own submissions and anyone who knows them would never entertain
the notion these postings imply. The only serious thing I see is the
current lowering (severe degradation) of the submissions to this mail
exploder.
