QSK? You're kidding, right? The fact of the matter is that the only CW
these guys can copy is their OWN CALL! Why else would they keep calling
right over the DX? If it weren't for packet they wouldn't even know what
frequency to call on. Bring back the old licensing system and you'll
eliminate this problem!

Thanks for reading this message. I am preparing to erect a 4 element
phased array in a 4-square configuration using full half-wave elements on
80M instead of 1/4 wave verticals with elevated radials as many others
have done. After a detailed analysis of this array using Brian Beezley's
AO program I have become concerned about the large disparity in drive
point impedance that the elements exhibit. One of the elements has an
impedance of 133 + j97 ohms at one end of the band. Another has a
negative resistive component (I expected that but do not know how to
handle it when computing VSWR). I had planned to use RG-59 foam coax to
feed the elements to minimize weight at the feedpoint, which are in the
form of Vee's turned on end with the apex pointing away from the tower.
It is similar to a K8UR array, but has wider spacing between the centers
of opposing elements.
I am interested in any replies from the contest community that have been
using 4-square arrays or who fully understand how they work. Should I
worry about the VSWR or doesn't it matter when one uses quadrature
hybrid's as in the Comtek Phasing box? Has anyone tried an array of this
type? I appreciate any comments you may have.

Someone told me that the part of the base section buried in concrete should
be painted with roofing tar to prevent acidic attack by the concrete and
moisture within the concrete.

Aloha all,
Will be very interesting if we can see the scores on RUFZ which will
be a part of the "First International High Speed Telegraphy World
Championships" to be held by the Hungarian Radioamateur
Society in October in Hungary. RUFZ is the last of six tests to be
given to determine both team and individual champions; three of
the tests are transmitting, and well as receiving: of letter messages,
of figure messages, and of mixed text.
Hope the results become available to, and can be posted here
on this, the best of the "ham" reflectors!

Come on... Enough already on the geographical advantages of the
northeast. If contest scores are THAT important to you, move to the
northeast.
The northeast/mid-Atlantic is where I grew up and stayed. I really don't
know (or care) what condx are like in the Northwest, cuz I'm not moving
there.
We all live where we live for one reason or another - job, family, etc.
My guess is DXing and/or contesting isn't very high on that list for most
of us. We just make due with what we have - propagation, earthquakes, hot
and humid summers, ice in winter, etc.
I don't work SS or Sprint cuz it's not fun for me. If the same is true of
DX contests for you, take the hint.
