Sorry - Jim.
I was just trying to get a response out and this mail system doesn't
allow me to bounce between windows like I would like. The only thing
I remembered was your user id, so typed it in.
I certainly did not mean to offend you, and I apologize profusely if
I did. I really do appreciate the work you do compiling the scores.
I have done similar tallies for other projects and know it can be a
lot of work and is generally rewarded with lots of corrections and
some not too polite comments.
Please accept my apology and keep up the good work.

Guys, are you asleep? The US is the leader in most of the world's
high growth markets now (semiconductors, computers, networking,
software, biotech, etc). We are also the most productive place in the world
to manufacture (ahead of Japan, Germany, etc). I'm sorry to tell you but
HF Transceivers for Amateur Radio is not exactly a huge growth market!
Who cares that Japan owns this stagnant market? The US owns the
NEW high growth Ham Radio market...it's called Internet!
73, Bill W0ZV
P.S. What place does this discussion have on a Contest reflector? Let's
stop our myopic, jingoistic Japan-bashing. If you're a true contester, you
should believe in open competition! Let the markets decide the winners.

Tell that to the hundreds of thousands of people who work for Motorola or
AT&T or Intel or TI or Hewlett-Packard or ...
Maybe an attitude like THAT is PART of the problem !!!

Does any CONTESTers out there have any experience getting the MFJ-1798 antenna
to work?
Its the big complicated 10 band vertical.
A friend of mind bought one (*#%^$&!), and I put it up for him.
It won't load up at all any where. (about 5:1 all bands)
I tripple checked the directions. I spent days trying to tune it. The coax is
fine.
I called the MFJ tech line, but they only gave me a few hints that didnt lead
to any problems.
Also has anybody ever had any luck returning an antenna once it was built and
getting a cash refund? (This ant is almost $300, has many parts, and Im not
looking forward to building a new one again)
I thought Id ask before I cut it into a million pieces and put it on the
compost heap.
Please email me direct.

Subject: TS-850 Advice ??
Message-ID: <9512201659.AA08159@cen.com>
Hi,
I'm getting pretty close to actually getting a new CONTEST radio. The
TS-850 is high on my list and I wonder if there are things to watch out
for, like good/bad serial numbers. I DO NOT want general info (e.g., get
an Icom IC-765 instead) - just stuff I can use if I do decide to get an
850.
Thanks,
Larry, K3TLX
