Six days ago I asked whether anyone had information about AP2MY. Jim Floyd's
compilation of CQWW CW scores showed that station made 2400 Qs single band on
40-meters. Floyd's listing says the operator was N9NC. I've seen nothing about
this operation in any newsletter or QSL source. You would think a Pakistani
40-meter contest operation would be pretty newsworthy, even if it doesn't
count for IOTA. <g>
Hams from Europe, Israel, Mauritius, and the Caribbean told me they had worked
AP2MY during the contest. From the US, only AA2UV and W8FJ (operating KY3N)
reported working him. Bob, AA2UV, asked the AP for QSL info and was told to
use the buro [which one- W9 or AP?]. No one reported working AP2MY outside the
contest or on another band.
Several hams said they were eagerly looking for QSL info on this one.

evaluation process, and help us avoid becoming members of the

Thanks for the description of the report that you posted on the reflector.
We are doing a similar one for the TS-870 and FT-1000 reviews about to come
up. So far the response has been a bit slow, but we are hoping it will pick
up. If we can get 100-200 orders a month, it will help fund our Lab
testing, and permit me to expand our test battery a bit. I think for the
'870, I want to do some swept receiver and transmitter bandwidth tests, but
am not 100% sure I can find the time to develop the test method before the
report is written.
I also want to expand the comparative section to include a few more test
parameters and a separate table on features (ie, notch filter, auto notch,
VBT, memories, etc.)
I sure hope this flies with hams; I would like to be able to do it even
better, but if we don't sell enough of them, we really can't afford to.

There is a fantastic new search engine on the www. Go to:

This site is owned by DEC. They have a machine that visits ALL web
sites in the world and downloads their visible pages. They then cross
reference all of the words found into a database. You can search for
strings and it will return all www sites/pages that contain that
string (or something close to it!). You can find anything. Because
it searches for strings, you often find some surprising links that you
would have never thought of.
Even better, the list you get is already set up with links. All you
have to do is click on the entry of interest, and you go there.
As an example, I needed the KA9FOX web site address. I entered
"KA9FOX" as the string to search for. Amazingly, there were almost 700
matches (including about every possible ham radio www site!). I even
found some that I was not already aware of.
Not really a contesting topic, but a good way to find those elusive www
multipliers!

Comments: I started with the name Mel, in honor of the last
time when a few beers and a few glasses of wine before the
contest left me feeling very Mel - OH. This time I was
stone sober, though you couldn't tell from the results.
Last Saturday I traced down two arcing power poles within
300 yards of my house, but with the holiday slowdowns the
power company hasn't been out to fix them yet. Therefore I had
S9+ noise on both bands. AA9AX was the only guy on 40 to be
comfortably above the QRN, and only another half dozen could
be heard. It's also quite a challenge to get the rhythm of
this contest when you can hear only one side of any qso.
Sigs were better on 80, so more people were above the noise.
I never made so many North Dakota QSOs in CW contest.
For 3 QSOs in a row WB0O gave me the name of Mark; I was
starting to wonder if Bill had read the rules :-) .

Sweden is reputed to have very demanding EMI standards. A number of the top
brands of monitors advertise their compliance with Swedish standards. That
might be a good place to start, though those standards may have more to do
with X-ray emissions from the monitor screens - I don't know. Can anyone on
the reflector comment? Computer RFI has been a real issue in my CONTEST
station from time to time, though not at present (antennas are too far away,
maybe?)
