IMHO

In the case of contesting (160 ARRL and 160 CQWW) where you work both domestic
and DX An inverted L may have a decided advantage. The vertical portion
providing
low angle for longer haul ( I have 160+ countries using INV L's) and the
horizontal
section for higher angle close in stuff (only missed Me and Al in December
test)...

Hi, Paul--

I have had a Heil Proset for 2+ years now and love it!

I've worn the ear pads to a frazzle and had one earphone separate from
its rotating connector. Back to Heil it went. Two weeks later I had it
back: repaired with modified connecor and new earpads. No cost. Too boot,
they even paid the UPS charge back to me.

The Heil 4 mic element is very good and punchy in contesting and DXing. I
have it and would not want any other. For conventional QSOs, the Heil 5
mic element is of smoother, broader quality [I'm told] but not "punchy"
ala the Heil 4.

The headset is truly the most comfortable I've worn and I put my first
headset on at age 10 in 1948 [my uncle was W6OQ]. I can wear it for many
hours and not feel any pinch, ear rub, whatever.

I did fine the earphones [in combination with my old TS-830S] to have a
low [floor-level] hiss which was slightly bothersome. Increasing audio
level pretty much overcame the hiss. Later I added a DSP-59+ and the hiss
was fully removed. That was my one minor complaint.

Hands-free operating is excellent, BTW. It took an hour or two to get
used to it, but now I don't care to operate any other way. In addition,
it closes out the amplifier's blower noise which I always found bothersome.

Call Heil, they may have a workaround for the nonstandard mic plug.

Its a good investment. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

My opinion for what it's worth...

Everyone should try to give something back to this hobby (ham radio
contesting). Sponsoring a plaque is a pretty easy way to step up to the
bar. Come on guys!

Mark me down for 21Mhz SSB and 28Mhz CW for W/VE. Where do I send the check?

Dear friends,

As I have a high static level on the low bands with my Butternut HF-2V, some
people have advise me to purchase the JPS ANC-4 Antenna Noise Canceller.
If you know this product I would like to know if it is really effective.

Thank you in advance,

Carlos - PY1CAS

ps. After the rain my reception improves very much!!!
