Beautiful spring (summer? high today in the 90s) day in Raleigh. Great day
for fishing, oops, this is suppose to be about CONTESTING. OK, here goes....

There is not a cover photo to comment on, and complain about the lack of
information.

Some good articles: The Evolution of the WW2Y/K2WI 160 Meter Antennas; Low
Power, Low Wires, and High Expectations; Contest Rules in Plain Language;
Profiles of New Generation of Contesters - AA9OC, KG8PE, & AB5LX; Tips,
Tricks, & Techniques - Single-Operator, Two-Radio Contesting; VHF-UHF
Contesting; A Review of HFx, Propagation Prediction Program; and Results of
Jan 96 CW and SSB NA QSO Parties.

Other goodies include: WWDXC Contest College; Reviews of Maxi-Switch
Programmable Keyboard, and Kiwa Electronics BCB Reject Filter; Upcoming
Contest Expeditions; Score Rumors - 1996 ARRL DX CW Contest; and more.

That's it. Now I'm off to pick up my new boat. I'm going fishing in a few
weeks. Anyone know of a salt-water-proof laptop? Hi.

I have the new Juno E-mail software (this is the one that is FREE). Am still
checking it out. I subscribed to this reflector, topband, and 3830
yesterday. When I tried to receive the mail last night it would not
download. Don't know what is wrong. Anyone else tried it out yet?

73 & good reading,

Dave--

Is this akin to the Jackie O affair? I've heard some people are willing
to bid upwards of $100,000 for a FT-1000 if used by WN4KKN. Cash is tight,
or I'd consider an offer like that. You should never stop looking for
that extra operating edge!

That is why a put a safty wire in the turnbuckles along with a loop of cable
with a padlock. They will need more than a wrench to wreck the tower. They
will have to have a bolt cutter.

TURN UP THE AMP!

If you need bolts for a ROHN tower, why not play it safe and get them from a
ROHN dealer? They will give you the exact bolts you need.

I have an opinion on the use of stainless and that is: stay away from
stainless bolts for use on a tower.

Pete,

There is a tried and true rule of thumb: Orient the antenna straight up
(vertical) with the reflector element nearest the ground and at least 4 feet
off the ground. (not an easy feat for a large antenna, but doable with rope
attached to the tower and a tether line onto the antenna.)

The SWR measured with the antenna in this position will be the same as the
antenna oriented horizontally at the operating height on the tower at a
height a quarter wavelength or higher.

This works FB for Yagis I have tried and was written up in QST within the
last two years. Someone on this reflector will give you the exact QST
reference, I am sure.

Anyone out there running a quad? I am temped to buy a Gem Quad and try it
out over the summer. But, I live in Kansas..and the winds are pretty hard.
I wonder what people have experienced with winds and quads out there?
