EVERY YEAR FIRST SATURDAY IN AUGUST 10.00 - 22.00 UTC CW/SSB
1. OBJECTIVE: For European amateurs to contact other European amateurs
- to determine European HF champion. Only EU to EU contacts count.
Calling - CQ EU on CW and CQ EUROPE on SSB.
2. BANDS: All bands 1,8 through 28 MHz except for WARC bands. Avoid using
DX portions of the bands.
3. TYPE OF COMPETITION
Only single operator - all band category in three classes: CW only, SSB
only and CW/SSB. Only one signal allowed at any one time; the operator
can change bands or modes at any one time, CW contacts on the SSB
portion of the bands or vice versa are not allowed.The same station may
be worked on CW and on SSB on the same band. Cross band/mode contacts
are not permitted.
4. EXCHANGE: RST report (CW) or RS report (SSB) plus two digit number
designating to the last two digits of the year of operator's first license
(i.e. 57982 or 5982 means that operator obtain his first amateur radio
licence in the year 1982).
5. MULTIPLIER: A multiplier of one (1) for each different last two digit
numbers of received reports per band regardless of mode.
6. POINTS: Only contacts between European stations count for points and
multipliers. Contacts on SSB count one (1) point, contacts on CW count
two (2) points.
7. SCORING: The final score is the total sum of the QSO points from all bands
multiplied by the sum of multipliers from all bands.
8. AWARDS: CW/SSB winner will be awarded with a cup and will be announced as
EUROPEAN HF CHAMPION for that year. Respectively, only CW and SSB winner
will become the CW and SSB HF EUROPEAN CHAMPION. Second and third places
will be awarded with plaques. Additionaly, first place certificates will be
awarded for winners in every participating country. Other special awards may
be given by the championship committee's decision. Persons or organizations
interested in sponsoring a trophy are encouraged to contact the address below.
To promote low power operations, stations with power output of 100W or less
will be marked regardless of the place or category.
9.NATIONAL COMPETITION: Separate list of national scores will be published.
Scores of all logs from one country will be summed for national list
regardless of clubs.
10. LOG INSTRUCTIONS:
a) all times must be in UTC
b) all sent and received exchanges are to be logged
c) indicate multiplier only first time it is worked on each band regardless
of the mode
d) logs must be checked for duplicate contacts, correct QSO points and
multipliers. Submitted logs must have duplicate contacts clearly shown.
e) entrants are encouradged to send logs on disks. IBM MS-DOS compatible
disks are recommended. Logs should be submitted in ASCII.
f) use a separate sheet or file for each band
g) each entry must be accompanied by a summary sheet (on a paper) showing
all scoring information,station description, contestant's name and address
in BLOCK letters and signed declaration that all contest rules and
regulations for amateur radio in the coutry of operation have been observed.
h) all entrants are required to submit cross-check sheets (an alphabetical
list of calls worked) for each band.
i) unmarked duplicate contacts and broken calls penalty: up to 3%, three
(3) additional contacts removed; over 3% is grounds for possible
disqualification. Disqualification will occur with other violations of
the rules.
11. DEADLINE: All entries must be postmarked NO LATER than August 31st of
that year. Indicate EU HF CHAMPIONSHIP on envelope. Logs should be sent to:

The Washington Post for 23 July has an interesting article (p. B1)
entitled: "Games People Really Play", detailing how bowling and
tug-of-war, as two examples, are not Olympic sports and how their
partisans have been lobbying the IOC for years trying to get them
recognized as Olympic sports. The bowling lobby, for instance, even
constructs bowling lanes at every venue where the IOC meets so the IOC
members can sample its attractions.
The upshot of the article is that getting one's sport recognized as an
official Olympic sport is a long, uphill, and generally unsuccessful
battle of wining and dining IOC members, since the latter feel that there
are already too many official Olympic sports, making the Summer Games an
already unwieldy affair.
Do we, as practitioners of Radiosport, have something unique to offer the
IOC, such as "the perfect sport for the Information Age..."?
Since I don't have a scanner, I will send a copy of the article in
question to K7SS by snail-mail.

ELEVENTH INTERNET CW SPRINT CONTEST
Contest period: 01:00:00Z to 03:00:00Z on Sunday August 11th UTC. This
is Saturday evening in the USA.
Bands: 40 and 20 meters only (this is a real radio contest, no internet).
Suggested frequencies are 7030-7050 and 14030-14050.
Max power output: 150 watts at transmitter output connector.
Exchange: Consecutive QSO number (starting with one), name and state
or province or DXCC country (if outside W/VE). The name for
the first QSO is your name. For every QSO afterwards, the name
you send is the name you received in the previous QSO.
Call: CQ INT
The standard sprint QSY rule must be followed. This means that if you
solict a QSO (ie: with CQ or QRZ), after completing the QSO, you must
QSY at least 1 kHz before calling another station, or 5 kHz before
solicting another QSO.
Both callsigns must be sent during the exchange. Only one signal at a
time please and all QSOs are to take place on CW. All information
submitted must have been decoded during the contest. The use of post
contest detection or verification techniques or systems is not allowed.
Also, do not make round robin type QSOs. It will be very easy to spot
these with the names floating around. A round robin QSO is one where
you should QSY, but instead hang around to work the station who is
QSOing the station you gave the frequency to.
You may work the same station multiple times provided they are separated
by at least 3 other QSOs in both logs (regardless of band). For example,
if WN4KKN works N6TR, KKN must work at least 3 other stations before he
can work TR again. TR must also work 3 stations before working KKN
again. Changing bands does not eliminate the three QSO requirement.
The three QSOs must not be dupes themselves.
You must not work the same station or stations using any kind of schedule
or system. It is the intent of the dupe rule to make sure we don't run out
of stations to work. It is NOT the intent of this rule for you to change how
you would operate the contest if dupes were not allowed. If, in the log
checkers opinion, you have not lived up to the intent of this rule, your
log will be disqualified!!
Total score is the number of contacts you make. Any QSO found to be
defective in anyway will be removed from both logs (yes, if someone
miscopies your exchange, you won't get credit for the QSO, so QRS a
bit!!).
Please refrain from using vulgar or inappropriate names. If you receive
one of these names, feel free to either edit it or replace it with your
starting name. Make sure to make a note in your log so we know what you did.
Injecting the contest with an inappropriate name (in the log checker's
opinion) will result in a 1000 point penalty per occurrence. Examples of
inappropriate names may be found on MTV and generally start with the
letter "B".
Additional penalties will be assessed to people who work a significant number
of QSOs, but don't turn a log in. They will be given minus one point
for each QSO that we can verify actually occurred.
Logs must be sent in ASCII format via internet to n6tr@contesting.com within
72 hours of the end of the contest. Figuring out how to send in your
log on the internet is PART OF THE CONTEST. If you need help, we will
try to assist the best we can.
Logs must show the band, time, station worked, number sent, number received,
name received and QTH received for each QSO. Also, please tell me the
name you start the contest with. We will assume the name you send is the
name received on your previous QSO, so you don't have to show that.
Results will be publised on CQ-CONTEST within 2 weeks of the contest. Logs
are checked using the K2MM LogZap software system. All checked logs will
be made available by FTP except for those requested by the submitter to
be kept private. Decisions of the judging committe are final and arbitrary.

You were logged correctly! I may have hit the F5 key before I had edited
your call... I am very happy to report that and fully agree that the 160
operators were very considerate every time I had to dig one out. This is
truly a gentleman's band no matter what some might think. When the chips are
down this becomes obvious. It is likely some missed a chance at working us
in favor of not interrupting. To those folks I say thank you and I will be
back to the Cooks to give you another chance soon. (North and South with
RTTY too..)
I am copying your reply to the reflector at large as I think others would
benefit from reading your comments. Hope you don't mind.
I don't collect qsl cards, on purpose, but consider the chore an extension
of the fun of DXpeditoning. You and everyone else that sends an sase or
request via the buereau will receive confirmation as soon as the cards are
printed and processed. Please be patient. As for the donation, it is not
necessary, but it is gratefully accepted.
Thanks again to you and all the operators that were so very patient with me
while I dug for your call and a few other tough ones as well.

I am finally getting around to completeing my 5 year station plan that =
began over 8 years ago. The final stage is the tower and tri-bander, =
which is just about complete thanks to prodding and
many forms of support from some very special guys (tnx W2XL es K5NA!). =
Anyway, I'm using 3/4 CATV hardline for the beam to shack run (about 250 =
feet). I found it difficult to find connectors for this stuff, and when =
I did, they were about $35.00 a pop! Man theres no way I'm gonna pay =
that. So I designed an adapter to go from a SO-239 barrel connecter to =
the 3/4 hardline. I thread the hardline with a very fine thread (32 =
pitch) which removes minimal material.
The whole thing goes together real slick, takes about 5 minutes to do a =
joint.
I showed it to the boss and a few others, we figure we could make them =
for about $8.00 a pop including silver plating. Cheaper if we just =
nickel plate them. My question is: how many of us use 3/4 CATV hardline? =
Is it worth it to make 100 of these up, pay for an ad in NCJ or CQ, and =
hope they sell? I'd have to make a threading tool also, which would be a =
one time purchase for each user.
Would you be interested in such a connector? It sure wouldn't make me =
(or anyone) rich, I look at it more as a service to fellow CONTESTers =
and DXers.

I am doing the 1995 CQ WW 160 Certificates and need help on two more:
1. R. E. Parkes 4S7RPG No address Given and not in call book or any of
the web databases.
2. Mike K3UOC..His log says Vermont, but the FCC Database lists a PA
address. I need the correct one!
I did about 20 more certificates today before heading for St. Simons Island,
GA (sorry no IOTA operation this year).
