Hello.
Anyone out there has any experience regarding the ARRL and their
service regarding submitting logs via ftp? I sent in our IARU-log
a week ago and still hasn't received any confirmation that they
have received it. Should I expect a confirmation? Am I better off
using the good old way via snail mail?

Hi all,
I have been following this thread with interest. A while back I proposed
changing the meaningless exchanges. Well, I think my desire has been
answered with what I have read here.
I vote for the "Topband Distance Challenge" for a neat meaningful name.
The scoring ideas proposed sound workable and fair. Hope the major software
guru's can accomodate this one and soon.
I like the idea of the low power stations getting a points advantage. This
will encourage more participation.
Certificates, if issued should be quickly sent, not like the WPX
vapor-ware-wallpaper..... Results should be published in a speedy manner as
well. Maybe this contest could set a good example of how others should be run.
I would add one request.
Please establish a DX window, 1830-35, for W/VE stations to ANSWER dx
stations. This window would NOT be used for W/VE stations to use for calling
CQ DX.......
I would further recommend that violators of this "DX window" be
disqualified. A new contest like this has a chance of being very sucessful
IF the sponsors keep control and don't allow rules infractions to go
"un-rewarded".
160M is one of my favorite bands and I look forward to entering this new
contest.

Yes, this is the best way to make it a meaningful and fun exchange
while insuring more fairness in the awarding of points. There is no
meaningful way to calculate distance based on the first two digits
alone. If it were purely a dx contest, then the first two digits
would work, but any 160 meter contest for most of us in the black
hole will be primarily a domestic contest. The first two digits
cover too much territory.
Why not use the first two digits as multipliers?

Yes, I thought this was to be based on the 4-digit grid identifiers.
Shouldn't be any harder to compute..."It's just a matter of
coding"...right? And toss the RST...the vermiform appendix of
contesting...OUT!
