Dear Contest Editor,

Here is the announcement for the 4th Annual "QRP To The Field"
contest, sponsored by the Northern California QRP Club. Every
year hundreds of QRPers take to the field and get a head start
on Field Day as well as have a great time on the air.

Could you please add our announcement to your contest column?

-------------------------- ANNOUNCEMENT ----------------------------

                      1998 QRP to the Field 
                 Sponsored by the NorCal QRP Club

                   Theme: "Run to the Borders"

Contest Period: April 25th, 1600Z to 2400Z.

CW HF QRP Only (5W max), no WARC bands, standard QRP calling freqs.

   Stations operating from a state/province/country border get an extra 
multiplier for each SPC intersecting at their *exact* location. Example: 
KI6DS operates from the CA-AZ border, getting x2 Border Operator multi, 
and must give a signal report from each state (Example: "579 CA, 579 AZ"). 
Stations working KI6DS would get SPC credit for each state, as well as 
QSO pts for each separate signal report received.

Exchange: RST and SPC (Stations operating on a state/DX border must give 
          a separate RST for each state, province or country.)

          Example: (Field op on CA/AZ border) "559 CA, 559 AZ"

Points:   5 pts per QSO. Stations working Border Operators score 5 pts per 
          report received, and should log each state/report separately.

Multipliers: 

      SPC Total (each counts once per band).
      Border Operator - Number of SPCs intersecting at your position.
      Location - Home = x2, Field = x4 (Field = battery power and temporary 
          antennas).

Final Score:  QSO points x SPCs x Location X Border Operator Multi.

Awards:  Top Ten Scores Certificates

Previous by Date:  [CQ-Contest] Re: IARU contest/resultsHam radio is a hobby, but a lot of people dedicates a lot of timeand money to it, taking it seriously.To "take it seriously" it's not a sign to be abnormal, but a sort ofrespect for the hobby and the people dealing with.Concerning IARU results, it's evident to the stones that somethingis wrong in the results of the last 5 years, at least in the mixedmodes categories, but I can't believe that one of the major amateurassociation could have or support a contest committe deliberatelybehaving like someone (see above) told becuse upset.I can't believe the IARU organization itself could accept a shamefulmanaging of it's main HF contest, expecially if it is true what it wastold to me, that IARU is the only contest where checkers are payed.In the IARU, a committee who's not doing at all it's job would reallymake fun of the amateur community, not only of contesters, and thiscouldn't be acceptable by anyone.This is my opinion, and because of it I think what was noticed isdue to the rules aging and to a weak checking method, may be both injunction with a lack in the attention and some mistake, no one isperfect.A thief robbed ? Well, he only is the bad one to punish but it is notcorrect to accuse who represent the law as the reason of stolen gear.On the other hand, if a "law" is evidently proved to be not actual,beeing easily cheatable (ie. the guilty can't be found or proven),there is a very urgent need to act for changing things in the bestpossible way.If later, in front of the evidence, nothing changes, the "law men",those who should act in updating the rules in our case, also becomeresponsible of the sin, and should be replaced before the damagesbecomes unrepairable, by more qualified ones.It's a pity if a great contest like the IARU will drop in interest,but if nothing changes about rules or checking, I'll evaluate theopportunity to use that July week-end for typical summer purposes,weather is pretty nice in that period.I feel I'm not alone in this thought., i4jmy@migate.ampr.org
