First, read "Passages," the book by Gail Sheehy. Then . . .

You recruit among college students, and graduate students, as well as
young guys still living in apartments. Also, recruit among guys who have
just bought their first homes and haven't erected much yet. They want to
see how you did it, so they'll come over. Next, you recruit among guys
who are members of the contest club but are going through a divorce. Do
this carefully, tho. The guy you want has already stopped living with his
former wife. If not, she'll keep mentioning your name to him as a
distraction from the marriage ("You care more about going over to XXXX's
house for a contest than you care about me."). Then you recruit among
old geezers like yourself who have "been there, done that." If they miss
a contest from home, in exchange for spending time with a long time
friend, and get a chance to get out of the house, that's just fine.
Finally, whenever you read that a buddy has just lost some antennas,
volunteer to go over to his place and clean up the mess. Now he owes
you. Do not volunteer to help rebuild, as that will only make him
ineligible to come to your place as a guest operator. Let him take two
years to rebuild by himself. During that time, he's yours.

Now, read "The Prince," by Machiavelli.

See? A liberal arts education can improve your multi-op score!
