[CQ-Contest] "ED"s during NAQP

Subject: [CQ-Contest] "ED"s during NAQP

You know, I was feeling pretty stupid the other day, especially after
asking for a fill about 5 times. For some reason, I couldn't get the
exchange - name and State. Finally, it dawned on me that I was trying
to get a name out of "L" and the QTH information. What I thought was
an "L" was actually "ED" - sent very closely spaced. I thought it was
just me until KI7WX mentioned a similar experience. That was my first
"ED" of the night so I didn't have to ask for many fills following that
(it was burned into my brain by embarresment)even though it seemed a
common problem with the name. I will say I did come across one "ED" that
was sent very clearly - so it is possible.

Lesson - is it worth sending a short name so fast that it isn't readily
readable and takes 2 or more tries? I would really be interested in
hearing from any "ED's" and wonder how many got asked for refills that
they might feel was disperportional (?) to the simplicity of the name?
(Or is it me? - never deny the obvious <g>)

I know that my logger tends to run some combinations of messages/letters
closer together than I feel comfortable with at times and I insert 1/2
spaces between characters to get spacing I am happy with.
sometimes.
