The recent discussion here about listening to your own transmit signal
has gotten me thinking about something.

I've been seeing ads for wideband handheld receivers (like the Yaesu
VR-500) that do like 100 kHz to 1300 MHz CW, AM, LSB, USB, WFM, NFM, etc...
Obviously, with the rubber ducky antenna it comes with, you'll never hear
those 5W wet-noodle-in-attic DX stations. And even with a good antenna,
it's likely not the best receiver ever made. But, you could use one of
these little receivers as test equipment - listen to to your own signal,
rather than relying upon a monitor. Plus, if you're into VHF/UHF contesting
as well as HF contesting (like I am) the range is great for checking out
your UHF radio when nobody else is on the band...

I'm wondering, does anyone use one of these little receivers? Is
there one that's clearly best?
