I'll be on a short business trip next wednesday Feb. 23rd / th. 24th in
Helsinki and Jyvaskyla.
Though it would have been much better to come a month ago for the big CCF
meeting, I would
be more than happy to have a short chat (even a drink or dinner) with OH
contesters (if any in this
country !!!).
Most convenient would be in Helsinki on thursday night but I can
reconfigure my airplane bookings
for an earlier arrival on wednesday.

That is what I managed to dug out of icom reflector:

16 bits gives you a resolution of 65K discrete levels which translates
into 96db resolution. This is why the gain in the PRO is relatively low
prior to the A/D convertor. With 96db resolution you don't want to
quantisize (misspelled?) noise. Gain distribution is critical. 24 bit
gives you a resolution of 16M levels which is 145db resolution, which is
far greater that any realizable dynamic range.
