It's your lucky day.  Seriously, you, a single-op, found that mult with your
radio, tuned to the contest bands.  You are perfectly justified in trying to
work him.

I agree with KG5U, the right thing to do is to ignore the comment.

Just to be clear, I didn't write that - it was quoted from {I forget who}.

Please stand corrected.  As Dave K6LL says, if you fail to respond to a
"frequency-in-use" inquiry, you aren't using the frequency.  I think that's
an answer that's easy for both parties to figure out.
