Tim,
I have used almost every combination possible in the 3 TS-850's that I've
owned. I bring one or more of them to Antigua for contests.
I have settled on two sets of 3 filters that I install depending on the mode
I'm going to be operating.
For SSB I use:
-the stock 2.7's (very wide) ( these are built in to the radio)
-Inrad 2.1's in both IF's (Very steep skirts) (in the 500 positions)
-a Kenwood 500 Hz CW Filter (so I can work some CW +/- the contest) (in the
270 position)
For CW I use:
- The 2.7's
- Kenwood 500's in both IF's
- a Kenwood 270Hz filter
The CW configuration matches the 850's display.
For SSB, I had a Kenwood 1.8KHz filter that I tried in place of the CW
filter, but could not hear any difference between it and the Inrad 2.1
filter.
I would suspect that the Inrad 1.8 might be too narrow - except maybe for
wide CW or RTTY or really extreme SSB circumstances. The 2.1's are very
restrictive. While you're operating you don't notice how tight they are,
but when you switch back to the 2.7's you realize how limited the frequency
response was.

Bob N5NJ / V26O
