I recently ran several searches of the archives on contesting.com.
(For those who don't know where to do this, go to the "List Search" in
the left menu area of http://www.contesting.com)
Unfortunately, that search tool searches ALL the active reflectors on
contesting.com at once (amps, towertalk, cq-contest, etc.) and one
cannot choose to search only, say, "cq-contest". It has been pointed
out that one could add the specific reflector's name to the search
criteria if one wishes to limit the hits to that reflector. This is a
good idea and effective.
However, there seems to be a "gotcha" in that method, for when one
wishes to search, say, cq-contest, and places "cq-contest" in the
search criteria, one will probably not get any hits before March 1997.
This is because the cq-contest archives appeared to change form around
that time - back then the archive pages for each post did not
necessarily have the term "cq-contest" on them anywhere (the new archives have
it in the reflector's navigation links). Delete the
reference to "cq-contest" in the search criteria and posts from back
that far begin appearing in the hit list. But then, of course, so do
posts from all the other reflectors.
