Is this for real? I mean to say, I have no doubts that the email was
received by K4XS, but is there any way to verify the accuracy of the email
itself?
If it is on the level, I would probably confirm the QSO data... after the
entry deadline for the contest has taken place. I would also suggest that
the log entry from the "XYZ" group be sent in with a note explaining what
happened so that the stations worked would not be penalized due to missing
information from the "XYZ" gang.
I hate like heck to risk discouraging youthful operators, but asking for a
"fill" post contest like this has to be against the spirit, if not the
letter, of the contest rules. I'm nothing but sympathetic, but, well, no
one ever said life is fair and sometimes them's the breaks.
And... the reason I question whether or not this is on the level... well,
one of my favorite contests has a special award for "first time" entrants
who are not "experienced" contesters, and there has been at least one time
where a winner in this category was, allegedly, someone actually quite
experienced who operated under a club call to hide his identity (and no, I
don't know all the details, so it would be unfair for me to comment
further). Some people will go to any length to get that plaque or
certificate; a feeling I can understand, having been burned more than a few
times on technicalities in one contest or another, but that don't make it
right, either.

Hi...
We need your help.
During the recent ARRL Phone Sweepstakes you made contact with the
XYZ Radio Club, Jr located near Anytown.
XYZ is an amateur radio club just for kids and we had the
pleasure of making a contact with you using our club call: W1XYZ We
had six kids ranging in age from 7 through 14 yrs old participating in
the contest. The kids made most of the contacts and did most of the
logging until they crashed around 0300 local. They picked back up
around 0700.
Unfortunately, due to youthful handwriting, a cranky laptop and old
technology, we lost several entries from the contest. We have recovered
most of the "lost" information but a few still need a few holes filled.
In most cases the only thing we're missing are the serial numbers from
the exchange.
Can you confirm our contact and the serial number you provided to us?

This was the first real contest for XYZ and the kids set some
challenging goals for themselves: WAS and a clean sweep. They just
missed both because they never heard Nevada.
