I dont like having the radio above the surface of the desk
as I like to have my forearm resting on the desk.

If you are doing two radios correctly you will be tuning 
for 48 hours - keep that in mind when you design the station.

My current setup looks like this:

This is very much like the setup I used at the W5KFT station 
starting around 1994.  That setup looks like this:


Before that N5KO, K5ZD, N5RZ, myself and a few others used 
a setup like this at N5AU starting around 1982:




Yes - that is three radios with audio switching so that you can listen
to any two radios.  You will note this is before realtime computer logging 
so that complication of where to put the monitor was not an issue
but you did need enough room for dupesheets and log sheets.
