After a long absence from radio and contesting the bug has bitten again. I
have a Yaesu FT 1000MP which I still think is a good rig. I was looking
for a 2nd radio for So2r. I also travel between Colorado and Montana quite
regularly.

I was curious if anyone is using FT-857 or 897 in contest environments? The
897 looks to be a bit bigger in size. Right now there are some great deals
on them. The 857 is b/o till March.

I would also appreciate any comments on so2r accessories. I know I need
some type of switching box. Which ones are good and which ones should be
avoided. From my reading bandpass filters seem like a good idea. Is there
an all in one bandpass filter box that is respectable?

Any comments or suggestions greatly appreciated.
