In a message dated 7/29/04 8:13:10 AM Eastern Daylight Time, k1ttt@arrl.net
static and corona do not make 'metal glob's. at worst the corona will
create ozone which can cause accelerated rusting or corrosion/pitting of
metals. globs are formed by heat, as in lightning strikes.

Globs are also made by (heat generating) continuous arcing, which could be
charge bleeding or corona caused by excessive charge arcing/streaming at the
tips. (See 80m mobile antenna tips vaporized/blobed/melted, heated and burned
by corona). Done it with 500W, had to tape the silver spoon to add
capacitance and prevent the corona (not beer :-).
Lightning strikes would vaporize, melt away poor wires.
