South-going Zax can only go south. Yes, this is kids' story. It is a good
story. If you forgot the result or never read it, your local (USA) library
should have a copy.
Answer:
As all good contesters know, you win by making qso's. If this is one of the
"big ones" and you can work through the "QRM" without negatively impacting your
rate, you keep contesting. If it is not a "big one" (meaning you have other
places to easily qsy to) or if you can't maintain your rate due to qrm, you do
the high-scoring thing and qsy.
As all good rag-chewers know, in a BIG contest, the bands are jammed with
contesters. If you can continue your rag-chew without being negatively
impacted (meaning you can still carry on the qso), you continue to chat. If
not, you recognize that contesters are stubborn animals and you either change
modes or bands (such as to a WARC band).
I hope this explanation helps those who really need to ask this question (ie,
not simply being rhetorical).
