An interesting solution.

I've been using a similar, but less intrusive, approach for the past 20
years, or so. First on my FOSTEX, then on my Bose QC-1 and then more
recently on my Bose QC-2.

Advantage: - it does not require taking the phones apart or drilling
through them or risk damaging wires.

I simply epoxyed a threaded stud, the diameter of the Heil mike "clip" onto
the side of the phones. The Heil BM-10 boom then just slides into the clip,
as normal, and is secured by a threaded nut. Easy to remove the mike when
not needed, like CW contests, or when using the Bose on airplanes, etc.
(I've had more than a few people ask me on airplanes why my Bose have this
funny looking threaded stud on the side of the phones, and wonder why
their's doesn't, and if it makes the sound better?.........)

And as my Son K1DG has undoubtedly learned, the Bose QC-1 and QC-2 are,
without a doubt, GREAT contesting phones. Easy to wear for 48 hours.
Noise cancellation good. Outstanding dynamic range. Audiophile frequency
response.

In my opinion, a big advantage for serious contestors.
