This is a short reply to a long post :-)

> ASSISTANCE VIA PACKET/INTERNET/SPOTTING NETS/ETC: WHAT IT CHANGES

There is only one change. As G4BUO says, and how
often must it be repeated? - "the critical point that
separates it (spotting assistance) from all the other
'technology' is that the help is coming from other
individuals in real time, during the contest."

That's why SO and SO-Assisted should remain, or become,
separate categories.

Information/knowledge you have in your head or on your
computer before the contest starts does not compromise
your SO status - to include SCP and other reference
files. If you make use of updated information from
any external source after the start of the contest,
chances are you're no longer SO.
