I was reading with interest recent debate discussing
purity of contest results. It appears that most
operators who submit logs are interested in the result
analysis which help figuring out what other
stations/operators did or did not do to gain
advantage. Although we are all hoping that most
competitors follow the rules there is no clear way to
find out if someone steps over line. Thus, I can only
trust the results with some degree.

As a low power contester with a simple station I see
that most value which comes from the final score table
is in knowing what equipment and antennas my
competitors had used, station setup details SO2R or
SO1R etc.. Unfortunately, this information is not
getting declared in contest submissions and is only
shared on contest reflectors e.g 3830.. Thus, if a
station declares a score which looks like out of a
common pattern or a much higher score for example, it
gives me a puzzle. With limited amount of information
available value of the analysis diminishes to zero.
One of the suggestions is to publish supplementary
data (on the web?) which would include statistical
analysis of the results shown earlier as well as
technical information about the stations (Oceania DX
contest does it already in some way). It will make an
interesting reading for the technically biased folks
and will carry some use.

Happy holidays.
