Hi Scott,

 

Do you have a second receiver in your rig?  If not, you won't hear anything
on your transmit frequency when you run split.  If you want to hear what is
on that frequency, you need to swap VFO A and B so that your receiver is
(temporarily) on your transmit frequency.

 

If you have a second receiver, and this is the biggest reason to have one I
think, you CAN hear the activity on your transmit frequency because the
second VFO will be controlling the second receiver as well as your transmit
frequency.
