Analog Devices, employer of Norman Grant, K1DG, announced today that they
have developed a new single 8 pin chip transceiver to operate all modes and
bands for exclusive use during the popular amateur radio operating event
called the "Poisson d'Avril Contest".

The chip will be available to qualified amateur operators for the 2013
event. The qualification process will be supervised by K1AR who cannot
operate in the contest and therefore can be truly objective in the selection
of recipients. The chip is capable of 1 KW output on all bands and modes for
a period of 5ms before it is incinerates but according to the AD news
release, the processor in the chip is so powerful, it will make a minimum of
2500 Poisson d' Avril Q's before it incinerates.

The cost of the chip will be $401,000.
