I made more than 6,500 QSOs last weekend (including dupes), and signed my call
after every QSO. Granted I have a short call, but that's how I was "raised" as
a contester and it would bother me not to do so. I don't care if it costs me a
couple seconds. Maybe I could have made 6,600 QSOs - the tradeoff is still not
worth it to me. I prefer to be known as one of the good guys if at all
possible.
When DXing as KH2/N2NL I will sometimes only use "TU" but this is outside of a
contest situation and I still will sign my call after no more than the 2nd or
3rd QSO.
Signing my call serves several benefits that those who don't seem not to
consider. (1) It allows me to take a quick pileup break, reset my brain, and
prepare for the next onslaught of callers. (2) It gives me a quick chance to
focus on tuning the 2nd radio in a SO2R environment. (3) It gives the pileup a
chance to re-queue where otherwise the "TU" may not be heard and the pileup
descends into chaos.
If I hear a station signing "TU" only and that station is not in a zone I need,
I don't wait and keep tuning the radio. There are plenty of mults still out
there for a SOAB guy to find. I'm not wasting my time on you. Perhaps not
signing your call cost *you* a multiplier (but probably not last weekend with
all the KH2 activity).
