If you will still be there on October 1, I highly recommend finding a
station to operate from for the California QSO Party (CQP). I won't make it
this year (I have a trip to Suriname for CQWW RTTY), but it is a lot of fun,
quite competitive, and is definitely one of ..if not the best of the U.S.
State QSO parties. I normally go to NX6T (the San Diego Contest Group) QTH
North of San Diego. You might check with them, or if not, there are a
number of very active contest groups in W6 land.
