This happens to me a lot of times. I figure it is mostly QRN. I have heard
suggestions about running the rig off of a UPS, or other battery back-up,
and turn off the main breaker in the house AC service, to see if the noise
goes away. That way you can eliminate any power line source, generated from
appliances, etc. I did this one evening while on 75-80 when noise level was
20 over across the entire band. Found the golf cart charger was the source.

Advice re noise sources........
What should I look for when I have a noise starts at 6pm local and runs for
about hour with FAT PICKET FENCE display at ten over, no pauses, and then
breaks up into less loud and sharp and narrow picket fence on the
display of it. Turning antenna shows strong sig from NW to
NE....definitely North.

Covers all bands. 6pm is dusk here.

Pse what kind of devices should I look for? Is there a Web site with
noise samples?
