K4SBZ: " What contesting skill is involved with following spots?"
Oh, there are skills involved in getting the max score out of it. They are
just (very) different from "traditional" S&P skills.
Indeed, there is no human activity that somebody won't make competitive,
and that some person can't do incredibly better than everybody else. (From
the internet I downloaded a nice pic of contestants in a competitive eating
contest. Too bad I can't post it here for effect.)
The only question is whether those of us who prefer traditional S&P should
make some room for those who think a ham radio contest should be some kind
of computer game. I like NAQP's push to discourage "Assisted". But if
enough participants want an assisted category, maybe those people will
relieve the current volunteers of the burden of running the contests.
Whatever the rules, I'll "tune for maximum fun," and if washing the dishes
is more fun than the contest, then I'll wash the dishes.
